wellis green was born in the 1980’s under an Aries sun in a small railroad town outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The dichotomy of pastoral and urban life had an early influence on green, cultivating his bend toward a hip-hop aesthetic, while maintaining a longing for a return to nature.
By his early 20s, wellis green (then Inkwell the Biologic) had co-founded a record label, STLP, and began his foray into hip-hop. A keen observer always learning from experience and perception, green quickly cultivated a pristine boom bap aesthetic and erudite rap style to compliment his sound. Influenced by golden age hip-hop artists like DJ Premier, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Jedi Mind Tricks, Atmosphere, and De La Soul, wellis green has established himself as a torch bearer for classic hip-hop sounds.
Nature has always been green’s partner in solace, revealing her mysteries to him much like a Shaman. Learning the necessity of nature through careful observation and exploration greatly influenced both wellis green’s musical and photographic approach, as heard in his minimal meditative soundscapes and seen in his peaceful, zen-like photography. Like a seasoned samurai, green’s chops and crops of life offer an instrumental and visual retreat, while his skillfully crafted words cut to the core.
After years of transformation he has arrived in current form, and is poised to reveal his findings with the rest of cosmos.
