this was going to be a honest to god photography book available to purchase on-demand. But after a horrible test print, I decided to release it as a downloadable pdf. I didn’t have the space or time to go down the book printing rabbit-hole for a book that was gonna cost $250 per printing. Yeah, it was designed it with a lay flat binding.
So after 2 years and a light redesign, I present to you Dead Malls – Second Edition. While the print quality isn’t industry leading, it has a tangible lo-fi charm to it, beyond it’s mere affordability. Plus I really dig the 4×5 ratio the 8″x10″ dimensions provide. Below you’ll find both hardcover and softcover versions. They’re identical except for their covers. Both are printed on 70# white uncoated paper.
This book is more art than documentary, as in the shutter only snapped if something caught my eye.
In July of 2022 I bought a new camera, a Fujifilm x100v. In order to familiarize myself with the camera and the focal length, I wanted to shoot a small project and print it. And if you haven’t guessed already, this is that project, albeit a second iteration of it.
I hope you enjoy the photos.
Below you’ll find 4 images from each of the malls. If you wanna see more, either purchase the second edition, or check out the first edition galleries,
